Most mechanical engineering students preparing for higher studies or jobs ask one common question, Which subjects are the most important subjects in mechanical engineering? The mechanical curriculum or by the way any engineering stream/branch curriculum contains many subjects spanning from the first year to the final year.
The first year contains common bridge subjects while second-year subjects are all base subjects on which complete branch or specialization depends. From the third year, the application subject starts, and the final year would be having total application subjects and projects or internships. but some of them are basic subjects on which other subjects are based and rely upon it. The most important subjects for GATE 2024 are as under as per my belief.
Table of Contents
Most important subjects for GATE:
Fluid Mechanics
Fluid mechanics is the study of fluid at rest or in motion. It covers the behavior of the fluid (gas or liquid) in various conditions prevailing in a machine or in applications including the water pump, compressor, blower, refrigeration, and air conditioning, etc. The fundamentals of fluid mechanics help you to study the application subjects like turbo machinery, fluid power machine, refrigeration and air conditioning, and Internal Combustion. Engines, etc.
Strength of Materials
To design or modifying the existing machine or its element, mainly requires knowledge of the Strength of Materials because to design any machine component, we need to look for types of loading and calculate equivalent forces and stresses. So, before studying Machine Design, we need to have sound knowledge of the strength of materials. So, in the curriculum of any mechanical engineering, the Strength of Materials/Mechanics of Solids are covered (in the first or second semester) before Machine Design.
Engineering Mechanics
Engineering Thermodynamics
Thermodynamics is the basic subject that perfectly describes the nature or universe. The laws of thermodynamics govern the working of bodies, entities, or nature. Thus, it is very important to have a basic knowledge of thermodynamics before studying heat transfer and refrigeration, and air conditioning.
Theory of Machine/Dynamics of Machine
Manufacturing Technology
All the machines get built with material joined and fabricated with different processes with different techniques. This joining requires manufacturing knowledge.
Conclusion:
- Mechanics of Solids (Strength of Materials + Engineering Mechanics),
- Engineering thermodynamics,
- Fluid Mechanics,
- Theory of Machines/Dynamics of Machine
- Manufacturing Technology
While below are the subjects that are totally dependent on the above subjects. One needs to have sufficient and enough knowledge to study of
- Machine Design
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning
- Heat and Mass Transfer
- Power Plant Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
Nice work. Keep it up
how can we remove moisture from a tube having atmosphere air….and whatever we use should be having long life
Hi Aditya. I think you meant to say, you want to remove the moisture from an air which is flowing though a tube? The only solution to remove the moisture is to heat the air which is flowing though that tube. You need to heat some portion of tube (if tube is made up of metal). You should decide the length of heated tube so that air can be totally moisture free by evaporation due to heating.
